Sunshine in Scotland

On Saturday the British Long Championships took place at Balmoral, Scotland

Adam was 3rd on M16, and Scarlet was 4th in W16. The W16 course is below, how would you do 1-2? Scarlet’s thoughts on the weekend-

The British Long Distance Orienteering Championships 2018 were held at Balmoral Estate in the bright Scottish sunshine. Setting off for the start I was rather looking forward to my run as the forest looked runnable and clean however it was bound to be rather hilly as after all the area is just a very huge hill scattered with boulders and other Scottish things! After a short leg to #1 we had a route which posed an opportunity for route choice as it was almost a kilometre. I opted for the more direct, hilly route as I wanted to avoid running quite a distance over the vague slope and risking a bad bearing then having to climb back up.

The rest of the 4.7k course comprised of a couple of longer legs and then some fairly short, more technical legs before descending into the arena for the final push. I was extremely pleased to come 4th in W16A but more importantly it was an amazing experience running among world class athletes in the beautiful sunny Scottish terrain.
